This 2D version of Minecraft offers a unique yet treacherous side-scrolling survival experience (2D Platformer). In Hardcore mode, you only have one life. Death is the end; the world is permanently locked!

Below is a comprehensive guide, from core controls to strategies for conquering the game and defeating the Ender Dragon without wasting a single drop of blood.

1. Complete Guide to Paper Minecraft Control System

To survive in 2D space, memorizing the key bindings determines 90% of your chances of survival when surrounded by monsters.

  • [A] / [D] or Left/Right Arrow: Move your character left or right.
  • [W] or Up Arrow: Jump.
  • [S] or Down Arrow: Sneak to avoid slipping and falling off a cliff.
  • [Left Mouse Button]: Smash a block or attack a monster.
  • [E Key]: Open or close your Inventory.
  • [F Key]: Eat food or drink medicine.
  • [Q Key]: Throw the item you are holding.
  • [O Key]: Save Code -This is the most important key to copy the code that saves your game progress.
  • [P Key]: Pause the game.
  • [1 Keys] to [9 Keys]: Quickly select item slots on the Hotbar.

2. Phase 1: Essential Early Game Survival Tips

Upon respawning in the Hardcore world, time pressure is immense. The first night in Paper Minecraft 2D is incredibly terrifying as monsters will swarm from both sides of the screen.

  • Build a "basement" instead of a multi-story house: Don't waste time building a mansion above ground. Dig three tiles underground, place a crafting table, and seal the ceiling. This is an absolutely safe shelter against Creepers and Phantoms.
  • Craft a Shield as early as possible: In 2D space, it's very difficult to dodge Skeleton arrows. A wooden shield will block 100% of this ranged damage.
  • Underground Farm: Dig a small room underground, light torches around it, and till the soil to grow wheat. Ensure your Hunger Bar is always full to activate the continuous automatic health regeneration mechanism.

3. Phase 2: Preparing Your "Dragon Slayer" Equipment

Before passing through the gate to The End, you must have a backpack filled with the following ultimate items:

  • Diamond Armor: Recommended to have Protection IV.
  • Bow + 3 Stacks of Arrows: In 2D space, the bow is the ultimate weapon to blast away the dragon's healing crystals high above without dangerous climbing.
  • 1 Water Bucket: Used to pour water onto the ground when a dragon throws you into the air, reducing the damage from the fall.
  • At least 3 Golden Apples: A lifesaver for instant healing when your health drops to a critical level.
  • Beds: Bring around 4-5 beds to perform the Bed Trick.

4. Phase 3: Locating and Activating the End Portal

To find your way to the Boss's lair, you need to craft Ender Eyes by combining Ender Gems and Fire Demon Powder.

  • How to locate it in 2D: Hold an Ender Eye in your hand and left-click. The Eye will fly towards the Stronghold. Since the Paper Minecraft map is horizontal, follow the direction the eye flies until it points straight down to the ground.
  • Dig straight down to that location, and you will find the room containing the portal. Place 12 Ender Eyes in the frame to activate the black light leading to The End.

The battle against the Ender Dragon in 2D space is a test of patience. You are limited in perspective and movement direction, so strictly follow these 3 steps:

Step 1: Destroy the End Crystals

The Ender Dragon will continuously regenerate health from crystal stars atop obsidian pillars. Hide behind sturdy blocks and use your bow to accurately detonate all these crystals. Absolutely do not stand too close to the pillars when the crystals explode, as the area-of-effect damage in Hardcore mode can instantly send you to your demise.

Step 2: Countering Dragon's Breath

The dragon will periodically swoop down and breathe out poisonous purple clouds. In the 2D version, these clouds take up a significant portion of the screen. When you see the dragon preparing to breathe, throw an Ender Pearl to instantly teleport out of the affected area.

Step 3: Apply the 2D Bed Trick

When the dragon lands in the center of the perching platform, this is your golden opportunity to finish it off:

  1. Place a bed right next to the perching platform where the dragon lands.
  2. Place any stone block between you and the bed for cover.
  3. Left-click on the bed to "sleep." The bed will explode like a massive TNT blast, dealing critical damage directly to the dragon's head.
  4. Repeat 3-4 times and the dragon will be completely subdued!
